The Institut für die Erforschung der Frühen Neuzeit [Institute for Research on the Early Modern Period] deals with research on the « pre-modern » epoch from the 16th to the 18th century. Approaching theoretical and methodological issues is as much an important focus as the bibliographic documentation and widespread publication of international and interdisciplinary research results.

The journal Frühneuzeit-Info [Early Modern Period-Info] has been published since 1990. Scholarly articles from all disciplines within the entire research area are particularly included as contributions to the ongoing methodological debate. Information on congresses, exhibitions and current research projects add to the spectrum of the journal, making it a prominent source of information for scholars, as well as interested laymen.
