The journal Historische Mitteilungen (HMRG) [Historical Notes] presents new research results and articles in the field of late modern and contemporary history once a year. It also contains information about scholarly congresses and conferences, as well as reviews of recent publications. The journal was started in 1988, named Mitteilungen der Ranke-Gesellschaft [Notes of the Ranke Society].

HMRG is a refereed journal. Submitted articles are subject to an anonymised evaluation procedure (Blind Review) which plays a decisive role in terms of whether a text is included in the respective issue.

The reviews are published on recensio.net 6 months after the initial release (Moving Wall).
