In accordance with the Institute's aim to provide information on current research and the most recent publications on the culture and history of the historical eastern Prussian provinces and the areas of German settlement in Eastern Europe, Jahrbuch des Bundesinstituts für Kultur und Geschichte der Deutschen im östlichen Europa [Yearbook of the Federal Institute for Culture and History of the Germans in Eastern Europe] focuses on reporting new research results and projects. Further priorities are the documentation on the state of research and the presentation of research requests, reports from conferences and especially thematic bibliographies and overviews of archival and library collections in the eastern countries of Europe. Since 1998 annotations of important publications in the countries of East Central Europe are a permanent feature of the yearbook. The content of the yearbook is focused according to the division of the Institute into the four specialist areas of history, literature/language, ethnography and art history.
