Knihy a dějiny [Books and History] is the only peer-reviewed journal published in the Czech Republic on the wide range of topics that are subsumed under the study of the history of the book until the mid-19th century. Since 1994 it publishes scientific papers that deal with various aspects of scribal and print culture in Bohemia and Moravia, including bookmaking, printing practices, authorship, publishing history, book illustration and binding, bibliography, collecting and library history, literary studies, the dissemination and reception of texts, and censorship.

Each annual issue of Knihy a dějiny encompasses several original academic articles, often illustrated, including the English translation of the most groundbreaking results. In addition to the peer-reviewed articles, each volume also contains reports, book reviews on domestic and international publications, as well as information about current events in the field. The journal is available both in printed and electronic form.
