Zeitschrift für Balkanologie
The profile of Zeitschrift fuer Balkanologie [Journal for Balkanology], which is one of the leading balkanological periodicals, corresponds with the concept of teaching and research developed at the former Institute for Balkanology at the Free University Berlin and continued at the Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena. This concept aims at examining the cultures on the Balkan peninsula in their linguistical and extra-linguistical manifestations, taking into account several ethnic groups and families of language, and working comparatively as well as interdisciplinarily and integratively. Thus also a platform of scholarly discourse on principal questions of balkanology or Southeast European research, the true objective of Zeitschrift fuer Balkanologie is to present a wide variety of interdisciplinary and comparative research results on Southeastern Europe in its biggest expansion, stretching from Turkey across the actual Balkan area on to Hungary. The journal’s subjects range from linguistics, cultural studies and literature to ethnology, regional studies and folkloristics. It publishes texts from balkanologists and experts on Southeastern Europe from European and extra-European countries in German, English, French, Russian and Italian.
