The journal Zeitschrift für Ostmitteleuropa-Forschung (ZfO) / Journal of East Central European Studies (JECES) is an internationally renowned forum for the publication of new research on the history of and culture of those countries and regions which today form the states of Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, as well as parts of Belarus, Russia (Kaliningrad region), Ukraine, and Hungary. Between 1952 and 1994, the journal was published under the name Zeitschrift für Ostforschung. The journal is published quarterly and features articles, current research reports and book reviews written in German and English. On behalf of the Herder Institute for Historical Research on East Central Europe – Institute of the Leibniz Association, the journal is published by leading figures in historical research dealing with East Central Europe. All articles are subject to double blind peer-reviewing.
